Proton center groundbreaking set for 19th

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Northern Illinois Proton Treatment and Research Center will take place June 19 at 2:30 p.m. at the facility’s site in West Chicago.

The center will be located at 777 Discovery Drive in the DuPage National Technology Park, which is about 30 minutes west of Chicago.

The facility, which cost $159 million, is the first of it’s kind in Illinois.

Proton therapy is a form of radiation treatment, that uses proton beams to treat cancer.
