CMU holds on to beat NIU baseball 8-6; Softball falls to Ball State

Ball State beat NIU softball on Sunday 4-2 while Central Michigan held on to beat NIU 8-6.

The Huskies baseball squad had the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the ninth. A strikeout and two fly outs later, NIU fell in game one.

Taryn Hagemann pitched all 7 innings for the Huskies softball team giving up 2 earned runs and 8 hits as well as 6 strikeouts.

NIU had 3 errors in the game, leading to 2 unearned runs.

Saturday’s games postponed

Both the NIU baseball and softball games were postponed Saturday and will be made up as doubleheaders on Sunday.

The baseball team will face Central Michigan, with game one beginning at 12 p.m. and game two beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Softball will start action against Ball State at 12 p.m. and then again at 2 p.m.

Baseball picks up Friday MAC victory

NIU baseball improved to .500 on the year and 12-7 in the MAC as they beat Central Michigan 5-2 on Friday.

Trevor Feeney pitched 8.1 innings giving up one run on six hits while striking out five for the Huskies. Andy Deain earned the save.

Each team had three errors in the contest, with Miami’s coming back to haunt them in the fourth when the Huskies scored two unearned runs.

NIU faces CMU again on Saturday at home with action beginning at 1 p.m.

Softball has had better days

The NIU softball team fell to Miami (OH) 7-4 in game one of a doubleheader and then 10-0 in game two.

The Huskies had only seven hits throughout both games combined.

NIU had a 3-2 lead heading into sixth inning of game one, but the Redhawks scored five runs over the final two innings to pick up the victory in game one.

Meredith Linch for Miami pitched all seven innings giving up four runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
