NIU political science professor Gary Glenn served his first day Wednesday on the National Council on the Humanities in Washington.

President George W. Bush nominated Glenn earlier this year to serve on the council, which meets four times a year to review grant applications and advise the chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Glenn will be a member of the council for six years, ending in January of 2014.

There are 26 members on the advisory council.
