Last Bash 2008 intended to provide stress relief from finals

By BRETT MICHELSON

With stressful final exams approaching, Last Bash 2008 could provide a day of relaxing fun for students.

The free event is co-hosted by Recreation Services and Housing and Dining and will feature outdoor entertainment and relaxation activities for everyone.

Entertainment activities include “Wii Sports” and “Guitar Hero” tournaments, mechanical bull riding, rock climbing, ping-pong, bag tossing, live music and outdoor fitness classes.

“The fitness classes include kickboxing, yoga and cycling, which will last about an hour and will be available throughout the event,” said Becky Lewis, assistant director of fitness/wellness and marketing for Recreation Services.

Not only will students have the opportunity to engage in fun activities, but stress relief booths will also be available.

“Students will be able to receive acupuncture and massage therapy at the stress relief booths,” Lewis said.

Food will be provided at 4 p.m. and will feature traditional picnic food like hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken, in addition to a smoothie bar.

The first 500 students who attend the event will receive T-shirts, but Lewis said everyone at the event is likely to win a prize.

“If you participate in something, you’ll get something,” Lewis said. “But the point of the event is to provide students with a day of fun and pre-exam stress relief.”

For the children and children-at-heart in attendance, the Childhood Remade booth will feature coloring, hula-hooping and bubble blowing activities.

Lewis said it isn’t supposed to rain Sunday, but if it does, the event will take place inside the Rec Center.
