DeKalb is under a flood advisory due to water-saturated soil and predicted rain.

Only two inches of rain were expected to fall by tonight, but NIU Meteorologist Gilbert Sebenste said the possibility of flooding exists because the ground is already saturated with 1.25 inches of rain Tuesday.

Sebenste said wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour are expected until 7 p.m. today.

“This is only the first half of the storm,” Sebenste said. “The second half is going to be wind, clouds and snow.”

Sebenste said the snow was not expected to contribute much to flooding.

City Engineer Joel Mauer said the Kishwaukee River had not yet begun to rise, but the Public Works Department is monitoring the river level. Mauer said the city does not expect much flooding, saying the river is expected to rise and recede by tomorrow night.
