Not all of this week’s DVD releases are worth renting

By TONY MARTIN

1. “Juno”

Is there anybody who didn’t see this in theaters? It not only had an incredible script by Diablo Cody, but Ellen Page also dominated the screen and Michael Cera only increased his rising stock as “that funny guy from ‘Superbad.'”

2. “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead”

Philip Seymour Hoffman is a great actor, and in this movie, he brings all his talents to the table. The story is depressingly grim, but the performances are incredible. This was easily one of the most underrated films of 2007.

3. “Lars and the Real Girl”

Apparently, a guy (Ryan Gosling) brings a life-sized blow-up doll home after “meeting” her on the Internet. The premise is so mind-blowing that it might be hard to embrace the rest of the story.

4. “In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale”

If “Revolver” was not bad enough to turn people away from Jason Statham, this movie might do it. This is another one of his movies where he beats down everyone in sight. Recommended if you like violence and nothing else.

5. “AVPR: Aliens vs Predator – Requiem”

Simply put: It’s a waste of time.
