Rockford | Heavy winds forced the NIU men’s tennis match to move its match from DeKalb to Rockford.

These winds, however, helped blow wind back into the Huskies’ sail as NIU defeated Chicago State 6-1 Wednesday. The victory ended a two-match losing streak for the Huskies (9-6 overall, 2-2 MAC).

“It’s nice to get back to our winning ways,” NIU head coach Pontus Hiort said. “We rebounded well after [the previous] two losses.”

NIU junior Brian Livingston extended his win streak to 13 straight at No. 1 singles. Livingston defeated Chicago States’ (4-11, 1-4) Prakoso Imanuel 6-2, 6-2.

The Huskies had lost their last two matches 4-3 because of doubles points. This time NIU righted the ship and swept through the three doubles matches.

“We played pretty well in doubles today,” Hiort said. “It’s good to get that first point and have momentum going into singles play.”

After having their win streak snapped at 13 against Toledo, Alex Friesen and Jimmy Chu started another with an 8-2 victory. The No. 2 doubles pair beat Abram Mamahit and Aumir Ahmad of Chicago State.

“Alex and Jimmy did well rebounding right away,” Hiort said. “It can be difficult sometimes to rebound after having a win streak snapped.”

NIU returns to action Thursday in a home non-conference match up with Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (11-14) at 1 p.m.

“We know them pretty well because they were a conference member up ‘til this year,” Hiort said. “It will be a good test for us.”
