NIU Anime Club relocates to McMurray Hall

After a campus-wide search after Feb. 14, the NIU Anime Club has found a new home in McMurray Hall, Room 208.

President Amber Lewis said the club searched for openings in the Holmes Student Center and Neptune Hall Central. Lewis said Neptune only allows clubs to rent rooms one month at a time.

“It was surprising how hard it was,” Lewis said. “It was really stressful for me in particular, especially when none of the offices were open after the shooting.”

Lewis said the biggest problem with McMurray is finding parking spaces for the non-student members. She said it is also been a longer walk for all members, but added that nobody has stopped coming.

Lewis said they need the NIU Police Department to open the door in McMurray, since it is locked after class hours.

Vice president Michael Wright said the biggest problem for him with McMurray is the lack of available equipment.

He said Cole Hall had everything the club needed, but McMurray only provides a large projector, meaning Wright has to carry all the sound equipment the club needs to the building.

Treasurer Omonike Ayorinde said the club does miss Cole Hall, adding the move was difficult and frustrating.

“We’re used to Cole Hall,” Ayorinde said. “It’s been our home and it was really cozy.”
