New Whitesnake album disappoints

“Good to be Bad” – Whitesnake
Rating: 5 / 10
Hair metal is dead, but for some reason, some of the bands are still alive. Whitesnake is one of those bands that used to sell like crazy in the ’80s, and here they are again in 2008 with a new album.
“Good To Be Bad” is a metal album, but above all, a hair metal album. Albums like this, ones that are brand new, yet still sound dated, are the opposite of relevant. Whitesnake sounds like they are just going through the motions on this one.
However, the world of consumers may, as they usually do, disagree. Is David Coverdale still cool? Hopefully not, but he is certainly making an attempt with “Good to Be Bad.”
Yet the people who will buy this album will be at least slightly disappointed, as “Good to be Bad” lurches like a dinosaur as a comet comes crashing to earth.
The things about this album that aren’t enjoyable are the songs. It seems like Whitesnake is just trying to rehash all the things that made them famous. But this time, nobody is dancing on cars.
The most nagging thing about this album is how old it sounds. As Whitesnake continues to sell records, the 1980s get closer and closer to returning to our culture. This, teamed with a new Motley Crue reunion tour, may destroy our environment as Aquanet streams into our already depleted ozone layer.
“Call On Me” features some classic riffs, and some of the vocals are spot-on. As a whole though, this new Whitesnake endeavor is not impressive. There are many people who think that they should have hung it up decades ago, and “Good to be Bad” is not going to convince those people otherwise.
Purchasing this album is only recommended to people who un-ironically think that the best era for heavy metal was the ’80s.
