CMU extends NIU losing streak to 13 games
March 30, 2008
No one likes the number 13, and the NIU softball team surely agrees, as the Huskies’ losing streak was extended to 13 games this weekend.
NIU lost both games of a doubleheader this weekend against Central Michigan, with final scores of 2-0 and 4-1. The two games marked the first conference contests for NIU.
Sophomore pitcher Kate Greenough lasted the distance in Game 1 for NIU (5-15 overall, 0-2 MAC), giving up only two runs. However, the Huskies were unable to cash in on any of their five hits for a run.
NIU received a scare in Game 2 as pitcher Taryn Hagemann had to leave after the first batter. Central Michigan’s (11-11, 3-1) lead-off hitter Tracy Kaatz slapped a line drive that hit Hagemann’s head.
Hagemann needed stitches, but is reported to be fine, according to the Media Services’ Web site. The senior did not reappear in the game.
