The DeKalb area will see a heavy accumulation of snow Monday night into Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service reports.

There will be periods of snow with areas of blowing snow as well. The snow could be heavy at times.

Temperatures will bottom out at around 23 degrees Tuesday morning.

Winds will be blustery, with an east wind at 10 to 15 mph becoming north between 20 and 25 mph. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.

Total nighttime snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches is possible.

In an e-mail distributed by NIU officials to faculty and staff Monday afternoon, a prevailing opinion indicated that snow accumulations were not expected to significantly interfere with operations Monday evening at any campus locations.

Furthermore, officials said, weather conditions Tuesday morning are not anticipated to reach a level that would prompt a general cancellation of classes or closure of the university.

During hazardous weather conditions, the e-mail said, faculty, staff and students are encouraged and expected to use their personal judgment with respect to individual travel and commuting circumstances.
