January 22, 2008
Noted scholar and playwright Tennessee Williams career essentially began and ended in Chicago.
Northern Illinois University’s SummerNITE and David Kaplan will present the world premiere of Williams’ play, “The Day On Which A Man Dies,” starting Feb. 1.
William’s play, “The Day In Which A Man Dies,” was written in 1959, but was never produced. It will open at Links Hall in Chicago, two blocks south of Wrigley Field.
Alex Gelman, director of the NIU School of Theatre and Dance, says the invitation to produce the world premiere was remarkable enough for SummerNITE to make a rare wintertime appearance.
Haplan will take the play elsewhere after its SummerNITE premiere. The play will be staged in a museum or performance art space in remembrance of Williams.
