DeKalb Police Department has limited role in policing efforts

Additional patrols from the DeKalb Police Department and County Sheriff’s Office have been called in to assist NIU University Police today.
The DeKalb Police Department has additional officers aiding the University Police around campus, but at this time they are not taking an active role in the investigation, said Lt. Gary Spangler of the DeKalb Police Department.
“We’re definitely in constant contact with NIU to keep up to date on any development on the case, but there’s no indication that anywhere other then NIU would be involved with this,” Spangler said. “We’re not actively involved in the investigation.”
DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott said the sheriff’s office is assisting NIU police officers at their request with extra patrols.
