Helpful tips to stay sane while studying

By JOHN BACHMANN

Final exams are sure to be something that are on students’ minds by now, and may be the cause of stress.

1. Get help

The Counseling and Student Development Center offers help on how to reduce stress levels during this time of year.

“We’ve recently had a representative go to several residence halls giving presentations on how to help students in preparing for finals,” said Ben Lowe, a graduate assistant for counseling and academics.

Lowe feels the best way for students to be ready for finals is by being organized during the semester.

“It’s best to prepare notes over the semester so you’re not cramming when finals are around,” he said.

2. Avoid distractions

Lowe also thinks the best way to avoid distractions is by making sure you are not near the TV or computer.

“Going to the library in a secluded corner is the best place to be where you can’t be distracted,” Lowe said.

Ryan Lotich, a junior marketing major, has been studying for a while already.

“I’ve been studying already since last week, and find they best places to study are the library and Holmes Student Center,” he said.

3. Don’t cram

Lowe’s advice for stress is not to study in bulk amounts.

“Students shouldn’t cram for six hours, they should take breaks every so often,” Lowe said. “Finding time for yourself and relaxing is the best way relieve stress and anxiety.”

4. Slow down

Lotich finds it’s best to study at a slower pace.

“It’s good to take it one step at a time and to get overloaded by focusing one test at a time,” he said.
