By LINDSEY KASTNING

Rating: 9/10

Starring: Jerry Seinfeld, Renée Zellweger, Matthew Broderick, Patrick Warburton, John Goodman, Chris Rock, Kathy Bates, Barry Levinson, Oprah Winfrey

Plot: Barry B. Benson has graduated from Bee University and has to pick his lifetime job in the hive. Not satisfied with being cooped up for the rest of his life, Barry sets off into the outside world with the Bee Jocks, who gather pollen.

The Good: Whether or not you’re a fan of Jerry Seinfeld, “Bee Movie” is laugh-out-loud hysterical. With witty banter, bee-related jokes and adult innuendos, “Bee Movie” does not fail to please. Dreamworks re-works the magic of “Shrek” and “Over the Hedge” to bring another delightful comedy that reaches an audience of all ages.

The Bad: The movie incorporates an implied love relationship between Barry B. Benson and his human friend, Vanessa Bloome. He has fantasizes about her, drives her boyfriend, Ken, crazy and goes on dates with her, all in a disturbing attempt to try and win her love. While there is a sentimental element to the relationship between Vanessa and Barry, it borders on nauseating.

The Low-Down: Incorporating the exceptional talent of a diverse cast of stars “The Bee Movie” lived up to the hopes that it would surpass most animated comedies. The child-friendly language was easy on the ears and still made the audience roll with laughter. The animation was exceptional, even down to the details in Barry’s wings.

Incorporating an appropriate amount of romance, the comedy steered away from becoming mushy and focused on sarcasm and humor.

Watching Barry and his friend Adam sue the entire human race was hilarious. Layton T. Montgomery creates the biggest laughs in a courtroom scene.

The movie keeps the laughter going through the film’s short 90 minutes. Barry and his friends are entertaining and keep the audience smiling. Grab a date who loves to laugh or a good-humored friend and head to “Bee Movie.”
