Kickboxing provides students with winter exercise opportunity
November 9, 2007
Students who want to stay in shape over winter can work up a sweat with a kickboxing class.
The class is offered at the Campus Recreation Center at 5 p.m. Tuesday and 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. Classes run one hour.
Alanna Sluis, a junior political science major, is the instructor for the class. Sluis said the class primarily consists of cardiovascular exercising.
“We do a lot of cardio,” Sluis said. “We usually start with the upper body, then work the lower body.”
Sluis said the class is aimed at everyone from those new to working out to fitness junkies.
“This class is good for all levels,” Sluis said.
There is normally a good turnout for the classes, Sluis said.
“It could be anywhere from six to 20-some people,” she said.
Senior anthropology major Lindsy Frazer attends the class every week, finding it enjoyable.
“I love it,” Frazer said. “It’s probably my favorite out of all the classes I take.”
The class is a great way to break the monotony of exercise machines, Frazer said.
“The ellipticals and treadmills get really boring,” she said. “You break a sweat here, and if you’re looking to make a difference, it’s the place to be.”
Frazer said the class is a good way to work out effectively.
“Since the beginning of the year, I’ve seen a real difference,” she said.
A Fit Pass is required to attend the class. Students can inquire about the pass at the Rec.
