Re:New DeKalb hosting ‘Cards from Home’ through Friday

By SAM BRUNELL

Nothing says “Happy Holidays” better than receiving greeting cards from complete strangers.

Re:New DeKalb is hosting a “Cards from Home” event for the DeKalb community to send holiday greeting cards to fellow residents serving abroad in the military.

This is the first year Re:New DeKalb will host the event, which will take place through Friday.

“Our goal is to let those serving know we are thinking of them back home this holiday,” said Jennifer Groce, executive director of Re:New DeKalb.

Residents can stop at one of the various card stations downtown to create and submit a card.

“People should stop at one of the card creation locations and write a positive personal message in cards that have been provided or they can drop off pre-made cards, pictures, or letters,” Groce said.

Re:New DeKalb is encouraging families to register their loved ones serving with their current mailing address so the holiday card packages can be sent.

“We need the community’s help in getting the names of their loved ones and a current address to send the cards to,” Groce said. “Because of security reasons, the government cannot provide us with this information so we are relying on the community to help us locate our local men and women who are serving.”

The deadline to register is Thursday.
