The Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity celebrated its 40th anniversary at NIU Saturday.

The fraternity, which was chartered Oct. 7, 1967, tailgated on the east side of Huskie Stadium prior to the football game Saturday afternoon. A reception for alumni members took place at the Phi Sigma Kappa house after the game.

“It’s really great to talk to these alumni to see how their success has stemmed from Phi Sigma Kappa,” said Ryan Lotich, a junior marketing major and public relations chairman for Phi Sigma Kappa.

Lotich estimated about 200 people attended, with alumni ranging in age from 22- to 57-years-old.

Alumni recalled fond memories of their time with the fraternity.

“This place really changed my life,” said Glenn Roby, who graduated in 1991. “It offered me an outlet to meet a diverse group of people, develop leadership skills and make an impact on the community around me.”

Roby, now regional manager for a global positioning systems company in Schaumburg, serves as alumni board treasurer, national officer for the fraternity on the national board of directors and chapter adviser for the local

Phi Sigma Kappa group.

Current fraternity president Grant Greenberg, a junior corporate communications major, is hopeful about the organization’s future.

“The stuff I’ve learned and gone through is something I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life,” Greenberg said. “I want other people younger than me to go through with the same experience I had.”
