More students eating fresh since Subway moved in

Now that Subway has been a part of Holmes Student Center for more than a year, it appears more people are eating fresh.
Last year, Subway took the spot that McDonald’s held in the HSC.
Mitch Kielb, director of HSC, said the reason behind the change had to do with the McDonald’s contract bid ending and Subway making the best bid, giving them the location in HSC.
Kielb has found that despite the difference in business, things have been about the same money-wise.
“It’s a different product, but I think financially, it’s comparable,” Kielb said.
John Strasky, senior athletic training major, finds himself eating Subway more than he did when McDonald’s was around.
“I had McDonald’s once every two to three weeks, but since Subway took over, I eat here at least once a week.”
Strasky’s main reason for eating Subway has to do with the food choices the chain offers.
“I like to eat healthy, so that’s why I eat here,” Strasky said.
Senior communication major Mark Reyes eats Subway more than he ate McDonald’s for health reasons as well.
“I ate McDonald’s once a week when it was around and now eat Subway about twice a week,” Reyes said. “McDonald’s is something that I could eat a lot without getting sick of but it’s not the best choice health-wise.”
