The Comebacks show how to ruin a spoof movie

Director Tom Brady has released his disappointing sports movie comedy spoof “The Comebacks.”

The only thing worse than the over-abundance of reality shows is a parody movie gone wrong. With lame character names such as Coach Lambeau Fields (David Koechner), Ipod (Jermaine Williams), and Jizminder Featherfoot (Noureen DeWulf), the movie has no hope from the beginning.

“The Comebacks” title spoofs of director Howard Deutch’s 2000 movie title “The Replacements.” Coach Lambeau Fields receives a second chance to improve his coaching skills and attempts to lead a mediocre high school team to victory.

Unlike the motivational messages that come from sports movies like the 2006 movie “The Gridiron Gang” and the 2000 movie “Remember the Titans,” in “The Comebacks,” Coach Fields encourages his players to blow off studying and go get wasted. Keeping in mind that this movie is a parody, the worst part is that the actors themselves still try to portray serious characters.

The only interesting part of the movie is wondering weather the Comebacks will make it to the championship game. But bringing back the lameness of this story, the championship game is titled the Toilet Bowl game, causing no laughter from the audience.

The worst part of the movie is the fact that it is a parody of a parody of the 2004 parody movie “Dodgeball” which simply confuses the viewer. The actors try way too hard to be funny and force the comedy which only makes the movie seem longer than the already 84 minutes of wasted time.

It is important in a parody to stick to one main idea. Instead of focusing on football the movie went too far by trying to spoof gymnastics, hockey, and boxing.

This movie leaves the audience with few laughs and an overwhelming sense of waisted time. “The Comebacks” received no victory clap from the viewers and should not be included in the list of excellent parody movies.
