Health services offering flu shots

Flu shots are available to students for $15 at Health Services through the semester.

Shots are offered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, with no appointments required.

“Influenza is a virus that is easily spread from person to person,” said Carol Sibley, RNBS coordinator of preventive medicines at Health Services. “The university is a good place for influenza to keep going, and the vaccine is to keep our students healthy.”

Influenza can cause fever, coughing, headaches and muscle aches, which can last a week or longer, Sibley said.

“It hits pretty hard,” Sibley said. “It does not last one day or two, but it may make someone sick as long as three weeks.”

Health Services recommends students receive the shot prior to leaving for winter break, as it will most effectively immunize students from falling ill, Sibley said.

Flu season lasts from about November to March, she said.
