The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center is giving students the opportunity to participate in making sand art through Friday.

This is the first time the event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center, Room 706, will take place at NIU.

Participants can make decorative sand box art using a bottle featuring a variety of selections, said Margie Cook, director of the LGBT Resource Center.

“[This event] basically is to show people that they can have a good time, and the support for gay rights,” said Mack Lewis, a sophomore sociology major. “It can spice up your room with a little rainbow.”

The event gives everyone the chance to have an enjoyable time, Cook said.

“[It’s] something fun, especially for students who are not gay themselves, to support their gay peers,” she said.
