Northern View moving toward completion
September 20, 2007
Tom Thompson, a worker from Hess Caulking, stood on a lift, finishing caulking around windows on the second story of one of the Northern View Community buildings.
Now behind locked doors, Northern View Community is a few steps closer to being a complete project.
On Wednesday, contractors and sub-contractors were caulking, painting, finishing up drywall and doing touch up work, Thompson said.
“We’re wrapping it up here,” he said.
The recent construction at Northern View has tied-up many lose ends at the complex.
“I know that the front doors downstairs were unlocked, but they did put locks on,” said Taylor Palmer, a first year graduate Adult and Higher Education major and Northern View resident. “No one can just come and go as they please unless they have a key to the building.”
Brian Hemphill, Vice President of Student Affairs, has been very understanding to students needs and addressing the concerns, Palmer said.
The paving of the parking lot, which was originally gravel and rough on cars, was finished on Monday, Palmer said.
“Before we had to catch the bus out by the circle, today is the first day it is actually coming back in to the complex,” she said.
The first generation of Northern View residents had to deal with working out the bugs of the new buildings during the final stages of construction, but some residents remain optimistic.
“It’s a slow process, but it’s coming along,” Palmer said. “I think when it’s done it will be a really nice place to live in. It just takes time I guess.”
