Committee gives voice to students in dorms

DeKALB | Students who are displeased with their residence hall need not bite their tongues.

Concerns from student residents can be addressed to Hall Improvement and Dining Enhancement, or HIDE, a committee of the Residence Hall Association.

HIDE has existed since 2004, but only recently became an all-hall committee.

The purpose of the committee is to serve as an outlet for students to voice their concerns and make suggestions for hall improvements. The committee then works with the administration to find solutions for any matters presented.

HIDE attempts to find the issues of the utmost concern to students, and to address those issues.

“I hope that this committee will give residents a place to come and voice their concerns and issues with the halls,” said Sarah Roman, chair of the HIDE committee. “Next year, I want to promote HIDE, because many of the hall improvement budgets have been under-utilized this year. I hope that residents will see the impact of their suggestions through the HIDE Committee.”

There will be a big push for hall improvements in the fall, Roman said. HIDE has contributed to hall improvement this year by pushing for an increase in vegetarian and vegan options in dining halls, while also attempting to purchase bigger glasses for the dining halls.

The committee also is working to attain anti-slip protection in showers.

HIDE welcomes residents from all halls. Meetings are at 7 p.m. every other Wednesday in the Douglas Blue Room.

The next meeting is April 18.
