Monsanto renovations to be complete by coming fall

The buildings on the Monsanto property will see changes this fall, including renovations and campus units moving to the property.

Telecom ITS will be dispatched in the smaller building, with housing units assigned to it, during the summer months. Furthermore, components of the College of Health and Human Sciences will be centered in the Health, Wellness and Literacy Center, which will be the main building on the property. Components of the College of Education also will be placed in the literacy center. This will allow more student involvement while serving the community, said Jeff Daurer, the director of capital, budget and planning in the Division of Finance and Facilities.

“Our students will benefit from it with observation hours and practical experience,” Daurer said.

The Monsanto property, which consists of two buildings covering 28 acres, is located at Ill. Route 23 and Bethany Road. The property was purchased by NIU in 2005.

Renovations are scheduled to be completed by this fall. Facilities are attempting to allow groups the necessary space and area to accomplish what their section needs to do.

“The building is being renovated to serve the needs of the units assigned there and the students that they serve,” Daurer said. “The renovations will result in a top-quality educational facility for students in these colleges and from the community.”
