DeKalb Hot Spot
February 16, 2007
Once a week, Flavor will feature an establishment deserving of attention for multiple reasons.
THE SPOT:
Java 101, owned by Michael FitzGerald, located at 901 Lucinda Ave.
WHAT’S HOT IN THE STORE?
A good old-fashioned coffee house, Java 101 caters to anyone looking for a place to hang out, get caffeinated and enjoy a bit of distraction. “We try to have live entertainment every night,” FitzGerald said, which includes bands of nearly every genre. From hard-rock to rap, from classical to heavy metal, this place has heard it all. Another big attraction is the weekly open mic night that’s free to all every Wednesday.
WHAT’S HOT ON THE MENU?
Something brand new to the store is gelato, an Italian form of ice cream. Despite the cold, it seems to be quite popular. “It’s made with less air than American ice cream, so you get a richer and more intense flavor,” explained FitzGerald. If you happen to be looking for something more drinkable, one of the best selling products is the caramel mochaccino, offered for $3.50.
HOW HOT ARE THE PRICES?
The current featured drinks include a hazelnut mocha, a white chocolate mint mocha and a cinnamon almond latte. During the month of February, any of those three in a 12 oz. cup costs a mere $1.95.
