Huskies carry momentum into tonight’s home meet

DeKALB | Momentum can be a great thing for some teams and useless for others.
Coming off a 30-6 blowout of Buffalo, the NIU wrestling team will try to keep its momentum rolling as they host conference foe Ohio University tonight at 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
Tonight’s match-up marks NIU’s fourth dual meet of the season, while the Bobcats have already been in 14. However, that doesn’t have NIU head coach Dave Grant worried, considering his team has wrestled against some of the top competition in the country.
“It’s more about who you’re wrestling rather than the format of a meet,” Grant said. “And we’ve wrestled some pretty tough people so far this year.”
Grant shouldn’t have much to worry about, as he has all four of his nationally ranked wrestlers – Mike Grimes, Johnny Galloway, Pat Castillo and Duke Burk – going to the mat tonight.
The meet will feature some of the MAC’s top grapplers going toe-to-toe. Freshman Seth Morton of Ohio will have the daunting task of trying to take down Castillo, the nation’s 15th-best wrestler in the 125-pound class. Other marquee match-ups include NIU’s Chad Vandiver taking on Ohio’s Terry Jackson, the MAC’s fourth-best wrestler in the 133-pound class, and NIU’s David Benner going against Marcus Adelman in the heavyweight class.
