McCarty garners fifth postseason award
December 7, 2006
DeKALB | Coming off a successful 2006 season, NIU men’s soccer forward Marcus McCarty received his fifth honor of the year.
The junior was named to the All-Great Lakes Third Team.
McCarty led his team with 27 points and seven game-winning goals for the year.
The forward adds this honor to his trophy case, which includes the MAC Newcomer of the Year, All-Mac First Team, All-Mac Tournament Team, and Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.
NIU coach Steve Simmons said he is proud of McCarty.
“I’m pleased for Marcus’ Great Lakes All-Region honor,” said Simmons. “To earn an honor of this nature in this region is quite an accomplishment, considering the elite programs in the Great Lakes.”
McCullagh raking in awards
On top of being named MAC Volleyball Player of the Year, middle blocker Kate McCullagh was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Mideast Region team on Wednesday.
McCullagh is the first Huskie to be named to the team since Jenny Bowman in 2001, and the only non-Big Ten player on the team.
For the season, McCullagh posted 632 total kills and 5.75 kills per game, ranking her fourth in the nation. The senior also set the NIU career record for kills with 1,936.
Missing in action
NIU men’s basketball senior guard Ryan Paradise did not play in Tuesday night’s game against UIC.
According to NIU coach Rob Judson, Paradise is not out with any injury but has an undisclosed illness.
Judson said the senior guard will undergo tests sometime this week to make a proper diagnosis.

The adage states, “You give credit where credit is due.”
NIU guard Stephanie Raymond received her credit this week by winning the MAC West Player of the Week.
The senior averaged 20 points, nine assists and five rebounds in weekend games against Northwestern and Cincinnati.
Raymond is averaging 21.3 points per game so far this season, which ranks her second in the MAC.
