House to host 8 so-and-so’s

Friday at 8 p.m. Margot and the Nuclear So & So’s will headline The House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway.

With Dirty on Purpose, Light Pollution and Paper Machines, the show will cost $6.

The Indianapolis-based indie rock band is out supporting its 2006 re-release of “The Dust Of Retreat.” The eight-piece Margot has been compared to influential indie rock groups like The Arcade Fire, The Decemberists, The Shins and Broken Social Scene.

“This is a great band to book on a college campus,” said John Ugolini of Kickstand Productions who books shows at The House. “They’re a perfect indie rock act.”

All eight band members live in a house together. The band was originally co-founded by Richard Edwards and Andy Fry who, according to their Web site, met in a pet store and became great friends.

The band originally released “The Dust of Retreat” on Indianapolis-based indie label Standard Recording Company, but is now signed to New York City’s Artemis Records. The band’s name stems from Gwyneth Paltrow’s character in Wes Anderson’s film “The Royal Tenenbaums.”

Following in the footsteps of Broken Social Scene, the band has numerous side projects — such as panic attacks!.

The night’s openers are Light Pollution, Strongshark and the Scarring Party.
