Seven things students and residents need to know

The deadline to register for the November 7 election is October 10.

Potential voters need a photo ID and piece of government-issued mail to show a current address. A utility bill is suggested to be the easiest identification to prove a current address.

DeKalb has many places to register including the Student Association’s office, public libraries, town hall, Castle Bank, Resource Bank and American Bank.

Currently 54,050 people have registered to vote — 55,380 individuals voted in 2004 November elections. The numbers are up from 53,224 registered voters in the March primary election.

Any person who is a U.S. citizen that resides within the precinct for 30 days before the election, aged 18 or over as of the election date can vote.

www.dekalbcounty.org and www.elections.il.gov have additional specific information including frequently asked questions and answers.

If needed, absentee and early voting are available. Both Web sites have the necessary forms for voting ahead of time.
