in review rascal flatts, ‘me and my gang’

“Ya wanna know what ya get when you play a country song backwards? Ya get your house back. Ya get your dog back. Ya get your best friend, Jack, back. Ya get your truck back. Ya get your hair back. Ya get your first and second wives back.”
These are just a few of the lyrics from the song “Backwards,” one of the new tracks found on the fourth album from Rascal Flatts, “Me and My Gang.” Reminiscent of “Mayberry,” from the group’s second album “Melt,” “Backwards” is only one of the playful tracks making this one of the better country albums this year. Unfortunately, that’s not really saying much, considering Tim McGraw released a greatest hits album and Toby Keith’s new album has yet to be released.
“What Hurts The Most,” the album’s first single, is already one of the most requested songs on country music radio stations and it’s not hard to figure out why. The lyrics are meaningful, it contains a catchy chorus and it’s sung by the powerful voice of lead singer Gary LeVox.
Each song found on this album brings out a part of Rascal Flatts that has helped propel them into one of music’s most talented groups. “My Wish,” “Pieces” and “Cool Thing” all follow the same creative directional theme as past hits, “These Days,” “Bless The Broken Road” and “Skin.”
Although it’s nice to hear new material from Rascal Flatts, many of the new tracks, as previously stated, sound similar to past tracks from the first three albums. This, however, should not take away from “Me and My Gang,” which is a good overall album.
