Local stylists take part in Locks of Love hair drive
March 7, 2006
Stylists from local salons will be cutting hair for a donation drive today.
All hair collected will go the Locks of Love organization. Locks of Love is a not-for-profit organization that provides custom wigs for children who have lost hair due to severe burns, radiation treatment or other conditions which cause permanent hair loss.
The hair pieces are made entirely of human hair and are vacuum fitted, meaning they require no tape or glue to affix them to the head.
Those willing to donate at least 10 inches of hair will receive a free hair cut. Participants who cannot donate at least 10 inches can purchase a regular haircut for $5, which will in turn be donated to Locks of Love.
“Locks of Love is a good organization,” said Amanda Aldis, certified beautician and massage therapist and owner of Amanda’s Spa and Beauty Services, 650 N. Peace Road Suite C. “I do any drive anyone asks me to do.”
Aldis is the sole stylist from Amanda’s Spa and Beauty participating in the donation drive. She plans on closing her shop for the day to participate.
The event is hosted by the NIU Health Professions House and College of Health and Human Sciences, and stylists from Amanda’s Spa and Beauty Services, New Style Hair Salons and Serenity Salon will be participating.
The drive will take place from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Diversions Lounge of the Holmes Student Center. For more information, call 753-1891.
