LECTURE SERIES

Angela Dreessen, Director of Student Involvement and Leadership Development, spoke to the senate as part of the Prairie Lecture Leadership series.

She said Student Involvement and Leadership Development advises and oversees the four Greek councils and CAB and works with program production services.

Leadership development has an emerging leaders program to improve what student leadership can do on campus and helps arrange volunteer opportunities for students and organizations in DeKalb.

SPEAKER REPORT

SA Speaker Jose Perez reminded the senate that the Town Hall meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Stevenson Multipurpose Room. The meeting is meant to allow students and organizations to discuss changes they would like to see on campus with the senate.

NIU President John Peters will speak to the senate during its meeting at 6 p.m. Sunday in the Clara Sperling Sky Room.

SENATE APPOINTMENT

Leonard Mongerie, a senior political science major, was appointed as a new senator. The senate was split on his appointment.

Holly Creamer, a senator from District 2, said Mongerie is not going to bring anything new to the senate. Others said as a community advisor, Mongerie’s involvement with residents was good senate experience.

The senate moved to vote by roll call, and Mongerie needed to receive a two-thirds vote for approval.

Mongerie received 17 votes, and the senate at first said he did not receive the necessary two-thirds vote. After checking the bylaws, Perez announced candidates only need a two-thirds vote from the senators present, and Mongerie was accepted.
