Convo to host holiday concert Sun.
December 2, 2005
For the past seven years, musical ensembles have come together for an annual concert of holiday celebration.
The celebration and tradition of choral masterworks in support of the holiday season will continue at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Convocation Center, 1525 W. Lincoln Highway.
In the past, the concert has taken place in NIU’s Music Building. Because tickets have sold out in recent years, the venue needed a change. For this year’s event, people in attendance will be able experience the concert in a larger venue, which has previously catered to some of the world’s most popular musical artists.
According to Kevin Selover, Convocation Center marketing manager, the change will give more people an opportunity to attend the concert and also allow for an opportunity to sell more tickets.
Like in past years, DeKalb and neighboring communities will team up for an afternoon to present critically acclaimed music by the NIU choral ensembles, chamber choir, concert choir and university choir.
The concert also will feature other numerous musical acts. These acts – including the NIU Graduate Brass Quintet, members of the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the DeKalb High School Madrigal Singers and the Boylan High School Concert Choir – are all expected to compliment and add to the growing traditional of excellence associated with the annual holiday concert.
“The community will be able to experience the power and excitement of [more than] 150 singers joined in song with brass, percussion and organ,” said Eric Johnson, Director of Choral Activities at NIU, in an NIU Choral Holiday Concert press release.
Convo doors will open at 2 p.m. and the show will begin at 3 p.m. Tickets for the show are $10 for adults, $7 for students, and children 2 years old and under are free.
