Fair provides information on Study Abroad
September 13, 2005
NIU’s Study Abroad Office will host its 13th annual Study Abroad Fair Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center’s Duke Ellington Ballroom.
The fair will provide information to students interested in studying abroad and earning internships overseas. It is open to all NIU students.
“The fair encourages participants to explore the many study abroad options NIU has to offer,” said Anne Seitzinger, director of the Study Abroad Office. “Study abroad isn’t just for language majors. Students can seek a program in their major area of study or they can explore options where they might earn credit toward NIU general-education requirements.”
The fair will feature informational booths on study abroad programs in at least 65 countries. Students will be able to meet with faculty and program staff who coordinate study abroad programs across the globe.
“Students who attend the fair will learn about programs and financial aid and loan options that will allow study abroad to become a reality,” Seitzinger said.
Potential scholarship information will be available as well.
The Study Abroad Fair annually draws more than 500 students looking for study abroad and internship experiences outside the U.S. Last year, the NIU Study Abroad Office helped more than 300 students participate in these programs.
“Whether a student goes abroad for an internship or a study abroad program, the student will come home with strong evidence of his or her abilities to communicate across cultures,” said Clare Foust of the Study Abroad Office. “I think that’s important to employers.”
