Campus Activities Board is off and running with a fresh lineup of events.

Jazz in the Park is returning Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. in Central Park with special guest Maggie Brown, a Chicago jazz musician.

The week of Sept. 4 marks the beginning of a new CAB program. Working in collaboration with the Huskie Den, CAB Spectacular will be Sundays and students will be offered a special deal at the Huskie Den.

Admission is $4 and includes food and drink in addition to either two games of bowling or two games of pool.

The CAB and the Huskie Den will host weekly Texas Hold ’Em tournaments starting Sept. 7. All students are welcome to enter and the tournament will run through the end of November. When the tournament has ended, the winners of each game will play for a grand prize.

On Sept. 15, CAB will host its first Comedy Jam of the year, in the Carl Sandburg Auditorium at 8 p.m. Guests will include comedic performers Rob Stapleton, Frank Townsend and Hannibal.

Another new program, Friday Freestyle, begins Sept. 23 as a weekly event open to all students. Those attending may both perform and watch others perform. CAB President John Acardo said this is his favorite program. He feels it will bring in a large crowd because it appeals to a diverse audience.

“I think it will keep students inspired and invigorated throughout the year,” Acardo said.

CAB also will focus on collaboration with other campus groups throughout the year to bring students a wide array of events. In the plans are musical performances and speakers to be scheduled throughout the year.

One collaboration is a partnership with the Student Association to give students a chance to travel to Michigan for NIU’s opening football game by offering a bus service. Tickets for the game, as well as the bus, are available at the CAB box office in the Holmes Student Center.

Students can get a complete calendar of CAB events next week in the residence halls, HSC and the CAB office in the Campus Life Building, Room 160. Tickets for CAB events throughout the year can be purchased at the CAB Box Office.
