Ron White on way to DeKalb

While NIU students face tickets and fines for drinking in public, that won’t stop one comedian from holding a glass of scotch in his hand when he arrives in DeKalb.

Blue Collar Comedy Tour comedian Ron White will take the stage at the Convocation Center, 1525 W. Lincoln Highway, Sept. 30 and crack jokes all night long on his “Drunk in Public Tour.”

Most known for his work with Jeff Foxworthy, White has performed all over the United States and shared the stage with comedy legends such as Sam Kinison and George Jones.

With the success of the Blue Comedy Tour, White released a DVD entitled “They Call Me Tater Salad,” which has sold more than 500,000 copies.

“Ron White connects with the college students,” said Kevin Selover, marketing manager for the Convo Center.

White isn’t the first of the comedy group to perform at NIU. In January, Larry the Cable Guy performed at the Convo Center to a near sellout crowd.

“Ron White will do just as well as Larry the Cable Guy did,” Selover said. “There are a lot of similarities between them.”

The performance is $40.25 for the general public and $35.25 for NIU students (limit two). Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at the Convo Center box office and at all Ticketmaster locations.
