B.B. King playing Convo
August 17, 2005
After bringing acts like Brooks & Dunn, Bill Cosby and Dave Chappelle to DeKalb, the Convocation Center is working to bring a more diverse group of entertainers to NIU.
Two events have been confirmed for the next month; B.B. King on Sept. 22 and Ron White of the “Blue Collar Comedy Tour” eight days later.
Convo Center marketing manager Kevin Selover said the center cannot announce what other shows might be coming to DeKalb until they have been confirmed.
The Convo has hosted a variety of bands, comedians and family-friendly acts. Sesame Street, Larry the Cable Guy, O.A.R., Ludacris and Staind have all performed at the center.
“We’re going to continue bringing diverse entertainment,” Selover said.
Campus Activities Board and the Convo Center have partnered up in the past. This year they are working together to bring acts that will appeal to students.
Selover thinks working with CAB is a natural progression.
“We just kind of opened the lines of communications,” he said. “It makes sense to work hand in hand.”
Family entertainment and comedy shows are also being planned.
Students will benefit from ticket discounts for some shows.
Tickets for White are $40.25 for the general public and $35.25 for NIU students. BB King tickets range from $35 to $65.
