Running backs rake in the recognition

By Steve Brown

Both running backs in the Huskies’ offensive mainstay were named to CollegeFootballNews.com’s Top 100 list.

Sophomore Garrett Wolfe made No. 52 on the list. Harris trailed at No. 87. CFN predicted that if Harris is plagued by injury, as he was last season, Wolfe “will make a run at the rushing crown.”

Athlon Sports, Lindy’s Big Ten, The Sporting News and Street & Smith’s all named Wolfe to their presason All-MAC lists.

Haldi cut from NFL

Former NIU quarterback Josh Haldi was released last Tuesday by the Cincinnati Bengals.

Haldi, who signed April 28 after being one of only two Huskies to preform at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, was the only quarterback for the Bengals in rookie camp from April 30-May 1.

Huskies start season on ABC

NIU will kick off its football schedule in front of a national television audience through ABC Sports’ broadcast of the Huskies Sept. 3 season-opener against Michigan.

The Big Ten Conference announced that the 3:30 p.m. starting time and the broadcast plans June 30.

The Wolverines own a perfect 18-0 record against MAC schools.

Wolfe makes video game cover

For NIU football fans who happen to be gamers, Wolfe can be chosen as one of EA Sports’ NCAA Football 2006 custom covers in a “Race for the Heisman” series.

In demo screen shots for the video game, a digital rendition of Huskie quarterback Phil Horvath can be seen with Bowling Green defenders.
