Troubled Hubble: Making Beds in a Burning House

By Collin Quick

Destroying everything around them and piecing it back together in a meticulous fashion involving rock, pop and punk elements of style, Troubled Hubble have created a masterpiece that defies the Indie rock label.

While brothers Andrew and Nate Lanthrum dominate the rhythm section on bass and drums respectfully, rhythm guitarist Chris Otepka’s vocals hinder on introspective moments while lead guitarist Josh Miller adds dimension and depth to every song.

“What inspires you should entire you/live how you want to be loved,” Otepka sings on “Nancy” with a hint of longing and desire in his upbeat and playful voice.

Otepka is a modern-day Salinger in lyrical form with diction that any other 25-year-old singer would envy.

Brimming with upbeat tempos and melodic bass lines, the quartet creates uncanny power and energy on “Ear, Nose and Throat” while seconds later, the instrumental “Ear, Nose and Throat Pt. II” builds to a crescendo of sound that leads to the latter part of the album.

“The Do the Build the House” continues with harmonizing voices and allows the band to expand beyond the realms of music creativity.
