Voter tips reduce election problems
September 13, 1993
Over the past few years, Student Association Senate elections had to be repeated due to invalid ballots submitted by students. This has resulted in unnecessary spending of student activity fees better spent on programs like concerts or speakers.
To avoid a recurrence, the SA and The Northern Star recommend that students take the following precautions when voting:
1) Make sure the pollworker initials your ballot at the bottom of the page. The pollworker is in charge of checking IDs and making sure elections are run fairly. If he does not initial the ballot, it will be declared invalid and the vote will not count.
2) Only vote for eight (8) candidates, including any write-ins. In the past, ballots have been invalidated because students have voted for too many candidates.
3) It doesn’t matter what district the candidate resides in. You can vote for candidates either in or out of your district.
