Mudvayne: Lost and Found
April 20, 2005
Finally taking off the weird costumes, makeup and ditching the nicknames, Mudvayne released its fourth album, “Lost and Found.”
However, the album is nothing new. It sounds exactly like past albums, consisting only of heavy metal thrash rock with a bit of unnecessary rap. The constant screaming growl of vocalist Chad Gray is a little hard to bear after the first three songs. It leaves the listener asking if there is anything else to them except harsh vocals that one can barely understand.
Gray complains throughout the album about the deep meaning of life and how screwed up the world is, and it’s a bit hard to take the band seriously with its choice of words.
The quartet from Peoria do get it right on “Determined” and “Happy,” which are solid songs. The beats follow well with Gray’s growl.
Only hardcore obsessive followers of Mudvayne will really enjoy this album. Everyone else might just get bored.
The group needs to pick between thrash metal and rap, not a combination of both.
Mudvayne’s point isn’t getting out, and the band still seems like a joke.
