RHA adds options, six more stations to residence hall cable packages
April 10, 2005
Six new stations are being added to the cable package in the residence halls, said Jaime Besonen, junior human resource major, at the Residence Hall Association meeting Sunday night.
Three of the stations are already included in the package. E! Entertainment, ABC Family, ESPN Classic and ESPN News were added last week. The Gameshow Network and AMC will be added this week, Besonen said.
The ESPN channels were added because the RHA has a four-channel agreement with the station.
The RHA passed out 100 random surveys in each residence hall in the past two weeks and residents were given eight choices.
A survey was sent out to all residents last semester with a large selection, but Besonen said the hall encountered some problems with the old survey and decided to discard it and start a new one.
These channels were added at no additional cost to the residents, Besonen said.
The RHA paid for the six new receivers that allow the channels to be shown.
Sophomore journalism major Denise Zajkowski said she likes the new channel additions.
“I like E! Entertainment. I think I voted for E! and ABC Family,” Zajkowski said. “I would have liked to have seen Oxygen.”
In other news, Sara Goeken, RHA secretary, said the Channel 8 Web site is currently down, and they are trying to fix the problem. Goeken said they hope to have it up and running soon.
Also taking place this week are the residence hall nominations for the next executive boards on hall council.
Natia Stubblefield, Believing In Culture president, also said they are holding a dream analysis this Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Stevenson Towers’ North Multi-Purpose Room. Students can attend and find out what their dreams mean.
Lil’ Sibs Weekend, starting April 22, will have a lower age bracket this year. Last year, siblings had to be at least 12. This year, children 8 and older can attend.
