Area churches unite to spread the word of God, Christ
March 28, 2005
Twelve DeKalb county churches gathered for Good Friday services in Sycamore this Easter weekend.
Good Friday services began with an annual Cross Walk from the DeKalb County Courthouse, 133 W. State St. in Sycamore, to the First Baptist Church, 349 S. Third St. in DeKalb.
This year’s celebration was unique to these churches because the pastors launched an organization named “Operation Transformation.” The organization’s visions are to bring denominations together in the name of Christ.
Pastors from Sycamore First Baptist Church, Genoa Foursquare, Glad Tidings, DeKalb Wesleyan and Vineyard Christian Fellowship shared their vision of cooperating together as one geographic Church.
God is calling churches to think more about others, Steve Persson, senior pastor of Sycamore Baptist Church said.
“We want to see … lost families and NIU students being saved,” Pastor Ray Wahl of the DeKalb Wesleyan Church said while speaking about the new organization. “Addicted people delivered, teen purity established, positive pastoral relationships.”
“God will bless our efforts because this is His work and will,” Wahl said.
Bill Johnson, 71, of Sycamore said the service was unique, as he was amazed at the amount of churches coming together for the celebration.
