NIU happy to come home
February 3, 2005
There’s no place like home for the NIU men’s basketball team.
The Huskies, who won three of their last four at home, will return to the Convocation Center at 7:05 p.m. tonight against Marshall on Comcast SportsNet.
Both teams share many similarities, including struggles in capturing close games.
Nine of Marshall’s losses have been decided by 10 points or less, which is similar to the Huskies who have lost 10 games by 11 points or less.
Both teams also share similar offensive strengths. Marshall (3-14, 0-8 MAC) is second in the MAC in three-point field goals made while NIU sits at second in three-point percentage.
“Field goal percentage defense is always a key,” NIU coach Rob Judson said. “You definitely change your defensive strategy to take away their strengths. In another game, we might double-team their post, but when a team has so many good perimeter shooters, that would leave an open shot.”
The Thundering Herd are led by three double-digit scorers in Joe Miles, Mark Patton and A.W. Hamilton.
“Hamilton is a catalyst for their team,” Judson said. “He penetrates and sets his teammates up well.”
A transfer from Wake Forest, Hamilton leads the MAC in assist-to-turnover ratio.
