Huskies fans can get a glimpse of next season’s NIU football team at noon Thursday at the ‘Coaches Corner with Joe Novak’ luncheon in the Blackhawk Food Court of NIU’s Holmes Student Center.
NIU football coach Joe Novak said prospective student athletes will be signing their national letters of intent with his program today. Those attending will be able to see the Northern Illinois recruit highlight video, which will feature plays of the new signees.
Craig Hess, sports director of WLBK-AM radio in DeKalb, Bill Baker, the play-by-play voice of the Huskies Radio Network, as well as Novak will be spending time talking about the new recruits, said Mike Korcek, assistant athletics director for media relations. Novak is expected to sign between 21 and 25 students, he said.
Korcek said “Coaches Corner” is a good way to get the fans excited about the upcoming season.
Fans unable to attend can listen to the live broadcast via WLBK-AM (1360 AM), which starts at 12:15 p.m., Novak said. The event will wrap -up at 1 p.m.
“Fans can get fired up and see the new players,” said Korcek.
Novak said they have been holding these events to help keep fan interest since the team’s recent success.
Dave Reiter, assistant director for sports information, said recruiting is important.
“The Josh Haldi and Michael Turner of tomorrow are going to be in this recruiting,” Reiter said.
