“Shark Tale”

By Richard Pulfer

If there was a one-line pitch for “Shark Tale,” it would probably be “Finding Nemo meets Dragonheart with a touch of Goodfellas.” Although “Shark Tale” isn’t as inspiring as any of these, it is by large a fun and fast-paced family flick. The film follows a fish named Oscar (Will Smith) as he tries to move up in the ocean with the help of a vegetarian shark named Lenny (Jack Black). The special features unfortunately drop the ball. The commentary runs like one big inside joke. While there are some good clips of Smith and Black playing off of each other during the initial script read-throughs, these are unfortunately far too short. Overall, the movie makes an average rental and maybe even a good purchase for the kids, but the DVD is nowhere near as involved or extensive as it should be.
