Novak hits air waves

A special edition of the “Coaches Corner” radio show with football coach Joe Novak will be held (correction) Thursday at the Blackhawk Food Court at NIU’s Holmes Student Center.
The show will air at 12:15 p.m. on WLBK 1360 AM and focus mainly on the 2005 NIU recruiting class, which will be announced Wednesday when high school recruits sign their national letters of intent.
An NIU recruit highlight video reel featuring the top individual plays of the new signees will be shown at the luncheon.
Season opener
The NIU men’s baseball team will host a banquet of its own Saturday at the White Eagle Country Club in Naperville.
The Huskies, who open their season Feb. 11 at Texas Tech, will begin the event for fans and alumni at 4 p.m.
The banquet will feature a cash bar, social and silent auction and a chance for Huskies fans to meet and greet the team.
Iowa handles Huskies
Iowa had little trouble in disposing of the NIU men’s tennis team Sunday in a 6-1 non-conference victory.
Senior Willy Gali was NIU’s bright spot, beating Iowa’s Chaitu Malempati, 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles.
Two in a row
The women’s tennis team dropped its second meet in a row, this time 5-2 to Marquette on Saturday.
The Huskies were victorious at No. 1 singles when Cassie Drake defeated Callan Smith 7-5, 6-3.
