Gymnastics to host Falcons

The NIU gymnastics team will look to rebound from its first loss of the season when it hosts Bowling Green for a 2 p.m. meet Sunday at the Convocation Center.

The No. 38 Huskies continue to improve as they look to go 2-0 in MAC play.

“We have confidence right now,” junior Kristina Campos said. “The way we’ve been playing we think we can win the MAC.”

NIU (2-1) is undefeated at home this season while BGSU (1-3) has lost its last two meets.

The Huskies will try to reach NIU coach Mark Sontag’s goal of scoring 195 in competition.

“It’s something we’d like to reach by mid-to-late February,” Sontag said.

With recent improvement on the balance beam, NIU is coming closer to reaching the goal.

The Huskies will look to the nation’s 21st-best floor exerciser to help as well. Freshman Jennifer Rice’s mix of tumbling and choreography has helped NIU improve in this area.

On the uneven bars, the Huskies are ranked 18th behind the nation’s No. 28 performer, junior Ashlee Williams.

As a team, the Huskies hold the No. 8 ranking in the South Central region, placing in the top 12 for all four routines.
