SA selects election officials

Future campus-wide elections will be overseen by five new members of the Student Association Board of Elections, who were voted into office at the SA Senate meeting Sunday.
The board oversees the election of candidates for positions on the SA and Campus Activities Board.
The meeting also included the election of a chairman of the board.
“I will work together with the commissioner to make sure that everything runs smoothly when it comes time for elections,” said Tearched Scott IV, newly elected chairman of the SA Board of Elections. “I’m doing something that’s new for me; I’ve been a senator for three years and now I’m getting a chance to do something more in the senate.”
Board members will ensure elections are run smoothly and fairly.
“Being on the board gives me the opportunity to make sure that the proper procedures are followed during campus-wide elections,” said Aurora Salgado, one of the five elected members of the board.
Three new student organizations also received final recognition by the senate at the meeting. Kappa Phi Lambda, the NIU Gymnastics Club and the Korean Student Association were unanimously accepted by the senate.
“My main concern tonight was whether the organizations up for approval will come,” SA Vice President John Acardo said. “When organizations don’t attend the meeting during which they are up for approval, they are tabled until the next meeting.”
The senate’s agenda included eight new student organizations up for approval, but only three of them had representatives in attendance.
“We allocate so much money to organizations on campus so that a lot of students can be a part of something they are passionate about,” Scott said.
